The ISU Junior Grand Prix came to Lithuania for the first time ever and that was not the only milestone of note during this weekend’s event.
Alexandra Trusova wrote herself into the record books by becoming the first female skater to land a quadruple toe loop-triple toe loop combination. It was just one of three attempts at quads in her free skating routine. Even though a quadruple Lutz was deemed under rotated and she fell on a solo quadruple toe loop, the World Junior champion was streets ahead of the competition and maintained her unbeaten record in international junior events.
In her third season on the circuit, Yelim Kim from the Republic of Korea picked up her first podium placing by coming second. Kseniia Sinitsyna from Russia took bronze.
Andrew Torgashev from the United States came from behind to win his first Junior Grand Prix title. In his first international junior competition, Kirill Iakovlev from Russia finished in second place. Yuto Kishina from Japan nabbed his first Junior Grand Prix medal by coming third.
The ice dance event was won by Arina Ushakova and Maxim Nekrasov from Russia. This was the second Junior Grand Prix victory of their careers. Avonley Nguyen and Vadym Kolesnik from the United States and Darya Popova and Volodymyr Byelikov from Ukraine claimed their first Junior Grand Prix medals by coming second and third respectively.
