2025 FINLANDIA TROPHY: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

The last places at this season’s ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final all come down to this weekend’s Finlandia Trophy in Helsinki.

When is it on?

Finlandia Trophy begins Friday, 21 November with the pairs short programme and concludes Saturday, 22 November with the free dance.

Who is skating?

Two weeks ago Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) won gold at NHK Trophy and is the clear favourite to bag another victory in Finland. Adam Siao Him Fa (FRA) had a rocky start at his first assignment at Grand Prix de France, but he bounced back to come second and put himself in good position to qualify for the Grand Prix Final. Jason Brown (USA) just missed the podium last weekend at Skate America and has the potential to pick up a medal in Helsinki.

Amber Glenn (USA) already has one win on the Grand Prix circuit this season when she took the Cup of China title. The American will face Mone Chiba (JPN) who captured the Skate Canada crown in Saskatoon. Loena Hendrickx (BEL) and Rion Sumiyoshi (JPN) were both third at their respective Grand Prix events and will be in the hunt for medals this weekend.

Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin (GER) were pipped to the post at Skate Canada due to a below par free skate. The 2025 European champions will be aiming to make up for that performance in Helsinki. Ellie Kam and Danny O’Shea (USA) are the only other pair at Finlandia Trophy to have won a Grand Prix medal this season which the Americans earned in Canada behind the Germans. Lia Perreira and Trennt Michaud (CAN) missed on the podium in Saskatoon as did Jiaxuan Zhang and Yihang Huang (CHN) at their home Grand Prix in Chongqing.

The ice dance event in Finland promises to be a mouthwatering prospect. Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron (FRA) sensationally triumphant at their very first competition as a team at Grand Prix de France. The French will go head to head with Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier (CAN) who struggled in their Skate Canada free dance. Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik (USA) were a surprise second place at Cup of China where Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck (ESP) had a rocky rhythm dance, but pulled up to fourth. Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani (USA) continue their comeback as they try to get to another Olympics.
